Boy howdy. It's insane what prices people put on things. My father was
exactly that mentality...if he was buying someone else's stuff it had to be
dirt cheap and if he was selling something of his it was priced like gold.

Obviously, the shape of the tool is a leading factor. The age goes
hand-in-hand with shape and it isn't much of a deal breaker insofar as it
isn't so old the maker doesn't exist and you have to go on a witch hunt to
find parts.

My practice when I'm buying a used tool is I consider the new price
(today's - not then), instantly subtract 60% then I determine the needs of
tool (new power cord, new this or that) and subtract that.

Now, the "new, never been used" part is a horse of a different feather.
What they're saying is, "I bought it, brought it home, never used it and
I'm selling it for X dollars off because I want it out of here." He's
taking his lumps and marking it down - think of it being a scratch and dent
type of thing. If I was in the market for it then I would jump on the deal
since the store wouldn't have that kind of discount.

In this case I agree. However, you could call or email this CL chap and
'splain to him your reasoning for why his price is so ridiculously high and
he might come down off his cloud.
