So I've never done any fancy template routing, but it seems like double sided tape would well work for this. No?

We have been doing allot of template routing on the big tables by taping them down to the table.  Initially it was a struggle to keep the template in one place until I realized the router just wasn’t following along really smoothly.  So I waxed the templates which really helped but it also created a bit of a problem getting the tape to stick to the template.  We solved that by taking the tape all the way around the template (instead of on 2 sides).  Then what I noticed was the that the router was hanging up on the tape and would peel back the edges so I waxed the router base.  Seems to help but the wax does wear off fairly quickly.

We are routing 3/16” deep and I have found it is better to make 2 passes then to try and take it all at once.

I have seen several router template kits which advise to link the letters together and tape them onto the board with blue masking tape.  When I have tried this in the past I end up pushing the template letters around.  Is there a secret to doing this correctly?  Do I need to route the letters in multiple passes?
