I use double-sided tape for most of the template routing I do. As long as the wood surface is clean & smooth you shouldn't have a problem. It also allows you to wax the top face of the template - as 2Dave mentioned - without affecting the hold of the tape...

So I've never done any fancy template routing, but it seems like double sided tape would well work for this. No?

Subject: [Woodworkers] Secrets to Stenciling with a Router  I have seen several router template kits which advise to link the letters together and tape them onto the board with blue masking tape.  When I have tried this in the past I end up pushing the template letters around.  Is there a secret to doing this correctly?  Do I need to route the letters in multiple passes?Herb Treuil
