Last month I asked about plans for some wooden vehicles I could make for charity. Mike DeLong managed to get the floodgates opened up better than my searches had. I went with some plans for some trucks that I hope will be a big hit. And Mikes suggestion for the Freaky Fords. I have started with the 4 trucks that will be made. They all use the same basic chassis, the only difference is the length. Since this will hopefully be a bit of a group effort I wanted to get things ironed out and get some mock-ups made to use as guides. I have added my own take on the design for a water or tank truck and I have built the dump truck. Interestingly I have found a couple of flaws with hole sizing in the plans. I have started making notes to correct them once we start mass producing them. At this point I'm having fun, we'll see where I'm at after producing a bunch more
First the basic truck chassis. A piece of 1x4 cut down to 2.5 inches wide and a piece of 2x4 cut down for the cab. The Wheels and axles were purchased.

Next my idea, was for a tank or water truck if you will. Other than the cost of the 2.5" dowel* these can be knocked out pretty fast.

Then the dump truck. These really need a magnet or catch of some sort but I have to let those kinds of things go for something like this.

I did downsize the bed of the dump truck, it was called out to be 3/4" thick but it was just over powering to me so I made it 1/2"

*Doweling. I found a place out of New York that had some dang good pricing on wood dowels. Buying in bulk they are cheaper than the HD or Lowes on the small stuff. Of course if these trucks don't work out I will have a lifetime supply of 3/16" and 1/4" doweling :(
The 2" and 2.5' I needed are ash good looking pieces and cheaper than I could get locally. No sales, offset the freight so all in all I hope I am $$$ ahead.
