[Woodworkers] Lamp

Sorry for all the questions but this build has me a little perplexed. I
decided on a 8x10 base. I’m building a prototype. However, calling it a
prototype is really a stretch. I’m building the 2 tiers out of ¾” pine
(essentially making pine rectangular boxes). My thought was I could see what
scale will look like with the first 2 tiers drawing in the coves and curves.
In reality, the first 2 tiers will probably be out of 12/4 stock. This has
caused to me to think ahead to the real build. If I shape each piece first
and then miter, I will have 4 pieces with a giant cove and 4 pieces with a
large roundish shape. How do I clamp that? I can use strap clamps but they
will just slide off. I’ve read about gluing small blocks on each piece to
hold the straps on and then removing the blocks later. Haven’t ever done it
but may have to.

I’m starting to think I really need to do a real prototype. I may go to one
of the big box stores and get some pine posts (for the thickness).

Thanks for being my sounding board!

Thanks for all the input. I think I will make a cardboard cutout to
determine base size and then just go with that. I’ll do all the shaping
while in pieces and then miter and glue. Probably will be a combination of
band saw, spokeshave, plane (if possible), & a lot of sanding. Doubt I make
the deadline though.
