Tom,

I'm assuming you have the JML-1014 mini since you upgraded the motor to
variable speed. The JWL-1221VS midi only comes with variable speed from
what I can tell.

If you have the older 1014, then no, it won't fit without the extension. As
John said, the 1221 should fit fine.
