Sorry to hear about your bout with shingles. I've asked if the shot was covered by our company insurance. It is, but not 'til I'm 60... Looks I need to put in some OT to get it anyways....

Your parent's urn is absolutely gorgeous! When that cherry gets a little toasty, that maple will really shine - more than it does now.

I need to get a round tuit.  First let me say what nice work we’ve seen from several of our members – Joe, Gary and Doug come to mind – but I know there are more. And Joe, thank you for hosting this site but also for your documentaries, your stories, your , … um, embellishments(?). They do keep us coming back.  On a downer note: part of why I haven’t posted much (or gotten much work done in the shop) is because I’ve had the shingles. Please, please, please if you are old enough (age 50 to 60) and haven’t gotten the shot yet please do. The pain is out of this world and there is one thing they don’t talk about on those commercials – “pain after shingles”. There is a technical name for it but I don’t have it right now. The commercials tell you that 1 in 3 people will get the shingles. The shingles and its’ associated rash last typically 7 to 10 days and is very painful. What they don’t tell you is that 12% to 15% of the people who get the shingles will have the rash go away but the pain will linger --- for 12 to 18 months! Guess which group I’m in. I woke up on the morning of June 29th with the shingles rash. I immediately went into NowCare and the doctor prescribed an antiviral medication. I took the antiviral, the rash went away but it was still extremely painful. The doctor has me on a fairly high dosage of a nerve pain medication which is helpful in masking the pain but does not completely control it. Luckily the medication is non-narcotic. So, hopefully, 6 to 12 months from now I’ll be kicking up my heels again. Again, please get the shot, it’s not a guarantee but it may help.  Lastly, on what is a sad note but also a celebratory note here’s a picture of the urn I made. When my Mother and Father passed away within a couple of months of each other I needed to make a duplex, if you will. So, thinking outside the box I made … a box! Seems like most people think of an urn as a turned container and I considered doing that but, since there was going to be 2 residents whose lives were so intertwined for so many years, I wanted to do things like dovetail joints and book-matched panels to symbolize the love and life the 2 shared. I used cherry and curly maple, my 1 regret is that I should have used a darker wood than cherry but with time it’ll darken. I’m not offering to make one (see the above shingles reference) but I wanted to offer a possible different approach.    Take care all! This last weekend some very good friends of mine had a baby boy. 36 
hours later the baby passed away. The father and I have been great 
friends for over 15 years, and his wife is an absolutely amazing person. 
My wife and I want to do something special for them, and the father's 
brother asked me if I wanted to chip in on an urn. Then it hit me, you 
folks (unlike me) have actual talent!

Would any of you be interested in possibly doing an urn? We are going to 
obviously let the parents choose what urn they want (either from the 
funeral home, or a custom one), but I thought I would see if a gorgeous 
hand crafted urn was possible (considering both time and price).

If you are interested and could shoot me an example so I can show them 
along with the price I would REALLY appreciate it.
