Depends on your budget, but redwood is great and cedar would work also.  White oak is fun (hard) and is heavy, but it would be cost prohibitive for me as well as the others mentioned.

Like several others have said I would not use treated lumber for several reasons. The first and foremost is that it is unhealthy to work with, let alone eat off of. I would go to either quartersawn white oak, mahogany, or teak.

I am looking for bullet proof picnic table bench plans to be made with treated wood.  I saw a set made with 2x6 material for the top and 2x10 material for the seats with 2x6 trapizoids for the end supports.  I would like to make 8 ft. tables.  I want to bolt the end supports with 5/16 carriage bolts.

Does anyone have plans for something I could use?
