<div dir="ltr">I've got that same 7529. Thought it was a great router, until my control board failed. The funny thing is that I know it worked the last time I used it, so it failed while sitting someplace. It makes me think that moisture got into the speed control variable resistor. <div><br></div><div>For now, I just pulled the control board and wired directly to 120V (kept the on-off switch). </div><div><br></div><div>My old Hitachi M12V has been going solid for 23 years now in my router table, although the bearings need to be replaced. <p class="MsoNormal">I realized after sending the email that it isn’t the 7518. It is the 7529, actually two of them. Found some links on the web that refreshed my memory. It has been discontinued for years, but PC stopped making repair parts pretty quickly
and just expected you to buy the newer 8529. Um, no. Not inclined to give P-C anymore money (also had a P-C orbital sander and cordless drill fail so think I’m justified). The 7518 would definitely be worth repairing. Sorry for the confusion.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Since I have nothing to lose I may open one up and see if there’s anything obvious. Several posts mention cold soldered parts on a speed control board. I got lucky with my F150 and was able to repair a couple of cold soldered failures
(dash and temp display) so who knows I might have luck again.</p>

every room in our house. Just in time as my wife is using the room as she works from home. I’ve been itching to get into the shop and do smaller craftsman projects now that remodeling is complete. Lathe projects or decorative boxes or a guitar or something

Ten years or so ago I bought a Porter Cable 7518 (I think) router. It wasn’t top of the line, but they weren’t giving it away either. Worked well in a table, 1/2”, variable speed adjustment. I was pleased with it. Then it failed after not that much use. Later
learned it was a defective control board which apparently P-C didn’t make available or not for very long. Life happened and I haven’t done much routering for a long time.<u></u><u></u></p>
