First and foremost, thank you to all your good advice!! You saved a lot of potential consternation and gnashing of teeth 😊. It’s not an exact sphere but it’s good enough for government work! Shh, don’t tell anyone! When it came off the lathe it had a really cool texture to it and was shiny. I thought about using as-is but decided to sand and polish. I don’t think I could have gone wrong either way. I sanded down to 2000 grit and sprayed with gloss lacquer. The original weighed in at 3.1 oz and the new one weights in at 1.7 oz which includes the stem. So I took half the weight out of the sphere. I need to shorten the stem. So far so good!
