[Woodworkers] Projects and Happy New Years

I am going to step in and stir the hornets’ nest on this one. As the recipient of not 1 but 2 kick backs (hey I’m a slow learner) way back when I first started woodworking I have qualms with thin strip cutting that puts the strip between the blade and the fence in this manner. I have allot of respect for Steve and his woodworking knowledge but frankly I wouldn’t even want to watch this jig being used.
I am pretty sure that one or more of the magazines (possibly Woodworkers Journal and or Shop Notes or Wooodsmith) covered the ripping of thin pieces years ago (close to 20) and they advised against this approach. I made one very similar to the Infinity one that John linked.
I set the jig to the left of the blade the appropriate distance at the front of the saw. Place the board against it and slide the fence over and lock it down. This way the board is clear by the time it enters the blade and is totally clear at the end of the cut. Slide fence and board over and repeat until I have enough thin strips or until the board I am cutting from gets to narrow. It works just fine.

The jig that John linked to is very similar to the one I made ages ago. It works fine, but like I said, I stopped using mine.

You could also use a jig like this. It's probably even easier to use, and definitely easier to make:

Of course I talk to myself, sometimes I need expert advice.

A life? Cool! Where can I download one of those from?

Tom,

I made a thin strip ripping jig 20 years or so ago that worked OK. If I knew where it was I'd send it to you.

However, once I put the Incra fence on my table saw / router table I stopped using it.

Even better, I put the Wixey digital readout on my Vega fence. Now I can rip 0.100" strips all day long, moving the fence in between rips. Accuracy is +/-0.005".

Regards,
Steve

Am looking for a jig or something to assist in ripping thin strips to be used making pen/pencils inlays.
Something in the order of 0.1 inch thick.
Found a new tool that works wonders, called the Accu-Slice, but they want about $800 for the 3 piece set. See it at http://www.accu-slice.com<http://www.accu-slice.com/>
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I hope everyone has a Happy New Years!

Also, if you have any projects that you would like to share, please send them on.

Come on Chuck, after all the help with the gluing process, let's see what you came up with.

May everyone start the new year off making lots of sawdust. If not for yourself, then as a tribute to Joe.
