How about just buying small quantities of veneer. If that doesn't work, here you can plane your own like these guys.

Am looking for a jig or something to assist  in ripping thin strips to be used making pen/pencils inlays.
Something in the order of 0.1 inch thick.
Found a new tool that works wonders, called the Accu-Slice, but they want about $800 for the 3 piece set. See it at http://www.accu-slice.com
Any suggestions?
