Interesting. It appears only the pros own the domino (at least in this small sample size). I also echo the comments about a mortising machine as well as routers, jigs, etc. If the domino were more reasonably priced, I’m sure I would own one as well.

I have used the Festool Domino. I don't own one because of the cost, but they are great machines. I use mortise and tenon a lot and find it is really easy to cut the tenon on a shaper with a couple of Freud 6" blades and some spacers. They are consistent, and I can run the boards face down through the shaper. That way, I'm not having to run the boards on end through the table saw.

I considered it and weighed the pros and cons.
For me the pros are :
Faster joint once setup
Most likely eliminate my dedicated mortiser.
Cons:
$$$$ Minus what I could sell the mortiser for.
Ok so it takes me longer to cut the tenons on the table saw, and setup the mortiser and cut them, as a hobbyists my free time is free so personally I can't justify it.
Thanks;
Dom

Speaking of Festool – are there any hobbyist with the Domino? How do you justify it given other joinery methods? I assume faster. Or is this a case where you’ve always wanted one and so indulged yourself with a gift?
Now that you have it, are you glad you got it? Do you use it as much as you thought? Do you do all of your joinery with it now?

Steve,
I've got one of those with the dust extractor, and they are great.

I just saw this in my newsfeed, thought I'd share. Also, get $50 off your next purchase.
